Head Start Turns 60!

We’re celebrating 60 years of Head Start! This program has been crucial in providing comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to Kentucky children and their families.

This year marks a major milestone for one of the nation’s most impactful early childhood education programs—Head Start is turning 60. Across the country and right here in our community, Head Start has been giving children a strong foundation for success since 1965. Designed to support families with education, nutrition, and health services, the program helps prepare young learners for kindergarten and beyond.

Locally, Head Start classrooms are filled with laughter, learning, and bright futures. Kids are not only learning their ABCs, but also building friendships, developing social skills, and receiving healthy meals every day.

In honor of Head Start’s 60th birthday, children in our area shared their gratitude—and plenty of smiles—thanking the program that’s given them such a great start.

As Head Start celebrates six decades of service, local leaders and families continue to champion its mission: giving every child the opportunity to thrive.
